As many of you already know I am a reference librarian at the Stillwater Public Library. I have been practicing my profession there for over two years and am blessed to be there. I have a passion for books and readers of books. This passion of mine spills over into information, and accessing this information in any way I can. The patrons come to the library to access information. They took the time out of their day and made the effort to come to the library to satisfy a need. The needs are as varied as the patrons themselves.
I am their contact point to the library. I must have the wherewithal to get, give or guide the patron to the information that is being sought. Some of the problems encountered include assisting the patron in formulating what information they are looking to gain. I am seeking this degree to enable me to perform my professional capacity at a higher level. The information age is here and it is daunting for many of our patrons who spent the last forty or so years in a less intrusive electronic society. They are hungry to be up to date with the social pages, email, and the various research tools that have been created and refined since they have been retired or entrenched in a vocation or profession that is just now entering the electronic age.

As a public librarian, I work hand in hand with parents, teachers and students in their educational processes. I must become proficient with the tools and methodologies that the modern educational pedagogies require. As I enter deeper into my profession of librarian I desire to formulate programs that can be presented in the library to enhance the patrons’ skills and use of the information age which lies at their fingertips. The program I have been undertaking at Oklahoma State has already proved itself time and time again. I am becoming a better librarian which makes me a better public servant. I desire to become a librarian who will bring positive strength and quality information to my community and society.
